TESTING GOD’S PATIENCE

TESTING GOD’S PATIENCE

April 30, 2026

The entire universe is built on various principles, systems and structures. Sowing and reaping, action and reaction, cause and effect, etc. Every word spoken, kind or unkind, every action, every move and every effort will always go into God’s universe and return with consequences. God records every detail and their impact will show in time and also in eternity. In my little sojourn on earth, I have seen the consequences of people’s actions catch up with them in the long run.

‘Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.’ Ecclesiastes 8:11 NKJV.

God is not always swift in judgement or so reactionary. Those whose hearts are intent on evil are, therefore, buoyed by their seeming vindication by lack of immediate judgement. They reason selfishly, wickedly, and irreverently, not knowing that no matter how long it takes, they must eat the fruits of their actions.

Of course, some because of presumptions drawn from their understanding of God’s grace do not believe there are consequences for wrong in the New Testament. True love disciplines (Proverbs 3:12, Hebrews 12:6). God is more interested in our character than our comfort. Judgement may differ in its manifestation but it does start from the house of God (1 Peter 4:17). Moreover, violations of universal principles simply have consequences. God’s long suffering is a major attribute of his. Yet, when provoked repeatedly, it will end in unpalatable consequences.

The bottom line of my admonition today is for us to live our lives with the fear of God and not take His grace for granted. I have watched several misdemeanours around me in recent times and I’ve been amazed at some people’s contempt for spiritual things, despise for the grace of God, and irreverence towards spiritual authority. The fear of God remains the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Our sense of awe of God and reverence for His Word will keep us within the safe boundaries of the Word of God and help us build success that will last. I have seen many examples of fleeting success and prosperity that I am not easily impressed by the outward trappings of wealth and seeking success. It’s not about the present but the ability to finish strong.
