“This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;”
– 1 Timothy 1:18 KJV
I must confess I have not been able to resist the curiosity to find out what prophets are saying about the 2023 elections. For some reason I had always taken people’s predictions with a pinch of salt but so much is at stake with the 2023 Nigerian elections. The current president came into power with very high expectations of him 8 years ago. With corruption perceived as the main reason why development eluded the nation, the assumption was that a prudent management of the our resources would guarantee faster economic and infrastructural development.
The ‘change’ mantra of the current administration has ended up as a fiasco of sorts and a gross disappointment. With the hopes of a nation in tatters, the young generation in particular are looking away from the old politicians to a candidate who embodies the newness they desire. However, I am aware of how the same set of people have held the nation by the jugular and will not want to let go of power easily. My concerns are varied. If the old order persists, will there be a country in another 8 years? If a new order is ushered in, will the old power blocks allow it to settle down? If the youths are disappointed, will they not get restive? If the South Easterners are disappointed, will ethnic agitation for independence not aggravate? If the South Easterner wins, will the Fulani oligarchy allow him the space to govern peacefully? All these questions have kept me glued to prayer and to YouTube listening to the Lord the best I can and also to prophets and even charlatans alike.
One thing is certain! There will be an election. The permutations however include possible rigging, a reluctance to relinquish power, and possible revolution, but in the end, I perceive and have heard various prophets declare the dawning of a new day after confusion and much hullabaloo. God will as usual, work all things together for the good of Nigeria. As amazing and encouraging as the prophecies have been, I know they can only fulfilled through prayer and spiritual warfare. Christ’s church must exercise her God-given authority to enforce His Will on the earth. It is my conclusion that much prayer must precede the elections and follow them also. No matter the outcome of this election by Monday 27 February, prayer and spiritual warfare must go to another level for Nigeria. We must pray for the judicial process that will likely follow and pray against bloodshed in the protests that will also likely follow. In the end, let the will of God be established with as minimal as possible collateral damage.
PRAYER POINTS
⁃ Plead the mercy of God over the nation, repenting of the ritual killings, corruption, and mismanagement of the past.
⁃ Declare the judgment of God against spiritual and human forces that have held Nigeria bound and declare their hold upon our nation broken in Jesus’ name.
⁃ Declare God’s judgment and justice in the post-election judicial processes.
⁃ Claim divine protection over Nigerian youths throughout the country.
I still remember God’s prophetic word to me about 2023. It’s a NEW DAWN and nothing will stop it.
