WHEN THE FUTURE LOOKS DARK

WHEN THE FUTURE LOOKS DARK

May 28, 2026

I will never forget lying down on the couch at home one week after my examination in July 1989, feeling miserable and depressed inside.

I had cried so deeply. I did not know why, and I did not know what to do. I asked the Holy Spirit, “Why am I feeling so horrible deep inside of me?” I was at a point where I knew the decisions I was about to make would alter the course of my destiny forever, and I did not take it lightly.

Then, in the stillness of that moment, I sensed the Lord speaking clearly within my spirit:

“Only in the ministry will you find the joy and fulfillment that you seek.”

That sentence changed everything.

At the time, nothing about the future made sense naturally. The salary was poor because the ministry itself was poor. The future looked bleak and uncertain. There was no crowd, no influence, no platform, no guarantees, no applause. Leaving behind the possibility of becoming a lawyer or perhaps venturing into politics for the life of an evangelist without even a single church member as a teenager seemed like volunteering for disaster.

To many, it would have looked irresponsible.

To some, it would have looked foolish.

But there are moments in life when logic must bow to divine leading.

There are seasons when God will lead you away from what appears safe into what is sacred. Many people spend their lives pursuing what is profitable while abandoning what is purposeful. They build careers yet lose themselves. They gain applause yet feel empty inside. They climb ladders only to discover the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.

Fulfillment is never found in ambition alone. True fulfillment is found in alignment with God’s design for your life.

The call of God will often offend human reasoning because Heaven sees farther than man can see. God stands at the end of your life while speaking to you at the beginning of it. He does not guide you based on the comfort of the present, but according to the reality of the future He has already prepared.

That was why Abraham had to leave his familiar territory without knowing where he was going. That was why Moses walked away from the palace into the wilderness. That was why Peter abandoned fishing boats to follow Jesus. Divine purpose rarely comes wrapped in convenience.

Sometimes obedience feels like stepping into fog with only the voice of God as your compass.

There are believers today standing at critical junctions of destiny. Some are praying for clarity concerning marriage, ministry, career, relocation, business, or relationships. Others are battling the fear of disappointing people if they obey God fully.

I understand those emotions.

Obedience to God is not always comfortable because obedience will usually demand the sacrifice of certainty. Flesh wants guarantees before movement. Faith moves because God has spoken.

Looking back now after nearly four decades of ministry across nations of the world, I understand better what the Lord was protecting me from and what He was leading me into.

Had I ignored His voice, many lives connected to my obedience may never have been reached.

That one decision to surrender completely to the purpose of God became pivotal to hundreds of thousands of lives being impacted by the Gospel. Souls have been saved. Destinies have been restored. Broken people have found healing. Hopeless people have encountered hope again. Churches have been planted. Conferences, crusades, outreaches, media broadcasts, books, and missions have carried the message of Christ to many nations.

Countless testimonies today were hidden inside one painful decision made in obscurity many years ago.

One of the greatest lessons I have learned over the years is this: God is far more committed to your fulfillment than you are. The Creator understands the creation better than the creation understands itself.

This is why seeking the face of God is so important during seasons of uncertainty.

Feelings can fail.

Popular opinion can fail.

Economic systems can fail.

Human predictions can fail.

But God never fails.

The safest place in all the earth is in the center of God’s will.

This does not mean the journey will always be easy. Sometimes obedience will cost you comfort, popularity, relationships, finances, and even opportunities that appear attractive. But whatever you lose following God’s will can never compare to what you lose by ignoring Him.

If there is anything my journey has taught me, it is that no man ever regrets obeying God. Temporary discomfort can produce eternal rewards. The pain of obedience is lighter than the burden of regret.

Today, when I see transformed lives across the globe, hear testimonies of changed destinies, and witness the impact of years spent preaching the Gospel, I remember that young boy lying down broken in July 1989.

What looked uncertain then was actually Heaven opening a door into purpose.

God was not taking anything away from me.

He was bringing me into myself.

Perhaps you are reading this today while standing at your own crossroads. You may not know what the future holds. You may feel afraid of obeying God because the road ahead appears unclear.

But hear me carefully:

The God who calls you is already standing in your tomorrow.

He has seen the end from the beginning.

Trust Him.

When the future looks dark, hold tighter to the hand of the One who holds tomorrow. The path of purpose may not always be easy, but it is the only road that leads to true fulfillment.

At every junction of destiny, the One Person you can trust completely is God because He alone has the future in His hands.
